Cannonball Jellyfish Fine Art Print

$32.00

The Cannonball Jellyfish is one of the most common jellyfish you'll see in the coastal waters of the Southeastern US. Growing up on the Georgia coast, rarely did I walk on the beach without finding one of these jellies washed up, beached and deflated. If I could still see the jellyfish still attempting to pump water, I'd pick it up and give it a gentle toss back in the water. I remember as a child being fascinated with them and discovered, upon close inspection, I could almost always find small crabs living within the folds of the bell. It turns out, young long-nosed spider crabs have a symbiotic relationship with this jelly and will live on it for shelter from predators as well as feed on the zooplankton the jelly siphons in. The good thing about cannonball jellies is that they don't sting! Well...they do sting, but it is so mild, humans can't feel it. It is just strong enough to stun their main source of food, tiny zooplankton!

This is an archival quality fine art print of my original watercolor painting.
