This fine art print features the king mackerel, often called kingfish—a fast, silvery predator found along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Known for their speed and sharp teeth, kings are a favorite among offshore anglers partly due to their aggressive top water strikes.

A member of the Scombridae family, king mackerel are biologically built for speed, with streamlined bodies, deeply forked tails, and a series of small finlets behind the dorsal and anal fins. These finlets reduce drag and turbulence in the water, helping the fish maintain high speeds with remarkable efficiency. Their lateral line dips sharply near the pectoral fin—a unique feature that helps distinguish them from their Spanish and cero mackerel cousins.
