I love painting all types of birds but the great blue heron is definitely the species I've painted the most.  They are so charismatic and often easy to view up close which makes them a very endearing subject.  I love the color combinations in this rendition of the great blue.  The unfinished parts of his body allow the sienna background wash to create a vibrant contrast with the sky blue hues .
