Whether perched on a salt-sprayed pier post or flying in their organized, squadrons, you can always count on seeing brown pelicans on a trip to the coast. One of my favorite things about pelicans is how, during breeding season, their eyes turn ice blue. They have very striking faces and I really wanted to capture all the beautiful colors that you might not notice at first glance: yellow, orange, pink, dark green, and of course, that piercing blue eye.
