Don't let the small, delicate stature of these birds fool you, black-necked stilts can be feisty when they need to be! In one of my previous jobs as a biologist, I was gathering data on sea turtles, but would also monitor the shorebird nests on our beaches as well. We had one stilt nest, and every time we would go to check on it, both parents would begin loudly calling and swooping down at us, with those needle sharp beaks aimed at our faces. Needless to say, I have a lot of respect for these tiny birds!! I love the simple, coastal color pallet of this piece and I think a rustic white frame would make this a perfect addition to a beach cottage.
